74301236808272MattsheadfromChinaTrip1-forweb.jpgI have been practicing as an acupuncturist and herbalist since 2004, and in Eugene since 2005. My areas of special interest include musculoskeletal disorders, women's and children's health, spiritual emergence issues, and general internal medicine. My martial arts and qigong training informs my practice of acupuncture and Chinese massage, and gives me a deeper understanding of the physical and energetic bodies. I stock a bulk herb pharmacy with over 220 herbs and formulate herbal remedies specific to your condition and constitution.

I study and teach Hunyuan Taijiquan (Tai Chi), Bagua Zhang, and Qigong and have a deep interest in the mystery at the source of the world's religious traditions. I strive to bring the wisdom of the ancient healers and sages to life by practicing classical methods of promoting health, healing, and inner peace, as handed down to me by my teachers.

Tai Chi: moving for better balance
Art of self-healing Qigong - moving Meditation

This simple Eight Form Tai Chi is based on scientific studies at Oregon Research Institute and is designed to help improve balance and prevent falls. All movements adhere to fundamental principles of Tai Chi, involving weight-bearing and non-weight-bearing stances, good body alignment and coordinated movements conducted in a continuous, circular and flowing motion. Movement coordinates with the inhale/exhale breathing cycle. Movements are taught in sets which can be performed separately and linked to form a sequential routine.

This exercise program has been recommended by the Center For Disease Control and Prevention as an effective community-based intervention to prevent falls for older adults.

Qigong is a self-healing art that combines movement and meditation. Visualizations are employed to enhance the mind/body connection and assist healing. Regular practice of qigong can prevent and treat illness, reduce stress, establish balance, integrate mind/body/spirit and bring peace.
